Rod Puppet Tutorial

A thick piece of foam is carved to the shape of a head.
The head is covered in tin foil and cut with an exacter knife to make a pattern.
The head is sewn.
spoon eyes and a felt and poly-fill nose is ready to be attached.
Hair is added to the head

the hand has wires to make it flexible.

Strings are added for the arms to have joints. A piece of fishing line is sewn from the chin down the foam body of the puppet to allow the puppet to move her mouth. Also a carbon fiber rod is attached from the head down the body of the puppet.

A blue piece of fleece is glued from the neck to the chest of the puppet. The cloths are added. A wooden dowel has a hole drilled and the the rod is inserted. Now if you pull on the fishing line we inserted to the chin the mouth will move.
